Atty. F. Charles Petrillo, Wilkes-Barre, will make a public presentation at a meeting of the Huber Breaker Preservation Society on Tuesday, September 4, 7 p.m., at the Earth Conservancy Inc., building on Main Street, Ashley. He will first provide an update on his study of the “last days” of deep-coal mining in the Wyoming Valley, and then show two short anthracite mining films. The first part of his presentation will be a follow-up to his talk to the HBPS last January during Mining History Week. He wil
l then present the 1915 film, “The Price of Carelessness,” sponsored and produced by the Delaware, Lackawanna, &Western Railroad & Coal Company, and partly filmed at Concrete City, Nanticoke. A second early coal film focusing on mining in the Wyoming Valley will also be presented. The films are being shown in cooperation with the National Canal Museum, Easton, and the Anthracite Heritage Museum, Scranton. Atty. Petrillo is a former board member of both organizations and is currently working with them on the preservation of the Wyoming Valley’s early coal film heritage. The presentation is open free of charge to the public. Refreshments will be served.
